The San Francisco Marathon took place for the first time in the year 1977. Since then the event has been taking place every year except in the year 1988. The Marathon shall have a total of more than twenty two thousand participants in the different events.
Two years ago, Alyshia Davies weighed 277 pounds. On Sunday morning, nearly 130 pounds lighter, she conquered the San Francisco Marathon.
And hers was no pained stagger to the finish: The newly-muscled 36-year-old finished her second marathon in roughly three hours and 40 minutes, good enough to qualify for the prestigious Boston Marathon in April.
The fastest will leave first and the last bunch to go will be leaving at 6:45 am. The course will be closed by 12:45 pm. The Marathon will tour through Embarcadero, Fisherman’s Wharf, and then onto the Golden Gate Bridge which the first runners will reach around 6:00 am. It will proceed to Marin County then turn and re-cross the Golden Gate Bridge.
The route will then take the runners past the Pacific Ocean coastline at Baker Beach, through Golden Gate Park, past AT&T Park and eventually finish at Cupid’s Arrow. There will of course be many traffic disruptions but organizers say that all the roads should be clear by 12:30 pm according to SF Gate.
